Once on the idyllic peninsula settled a Slavic tribe of the Warnow, today is the Archaeological Open Air Museum at the site. Through the reconstructed settlement, temple and castle at the Old Slavic temple site of the 9th and 10th century, you get an insight into how people lived more than 1000 years ago in the time of the Slavs and Vikings.
In the exhibition building, which you pass first, there are mainly silver findings and there are changing special exhibitions. For school groups there are special action programs and furthermore special events and vacation programs. We were lucky, when we were there there was a reenactment of a war battle.
The museum is ideal for a short day trip with the family but also alone which you can arrange for example with a boat trip.
Already from the parking lot to the outdoor area one was tuned in by info panels about the museum. We decided to go first to the open-air ground, because the fight should be demonstrated in a few minutes. We wanted to visit the exhibition building afterwards. Already on the way through the forest from the parking lot to the open-air site, we were tuned in to the time by info panels. At the entrance, we were completely immersed in the era when we passed through the castle gate. Suddenly the environment changed. People were walking in robes of the time period. We spent round about 3 hours there.

- There is a large playground for children on the waterfront
- There are few options for vegetarians and vegans on site. It is best to take something with you and enjoy it on the lawn
- unfortunately the website is not available in english. However, there is also an English version for each of the German info panels on site.
