A city which has a castle like in the Disney movies, but this one is real and stands in Schwerin. Maybe you ask yourself where Schwerin is located. Schwerin is the capital city of the federal state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (MV) which is in North Germany. It is the second biggest city in MV. The first place goes to Rostock. But the two cities are different. In Rostock are more young people, in generell much crowder. In contrast, Schwerin is very quiet, which is also very pleasant. The Innstadt seems to me like a small town, very clean and I immediately had a good feeling.
Visiting the Schweriner Castle is a great day trip from Rostock, Lübeck, Hamburg or Berlin. Just around one hours or two, it depends if you taking the car or taking the train. When you are coming from Berlin it will take around three hours. The nearest stations is “Schwerin Central station”. The castle is all year around just a perfect places to visit.
How to go around? By foot. Everything is every close by. From the Schwerin Central station is it just a 17 minutes walk to the castle. On the way you can take stops to take pictures or stop by the cute café on the way.

The main attraction in Schwerin is the Schweriner castle, which was build between 1843 and 1857. The beautiful building is located on an island and was residence of the dukes and grand dukes of Mecklenburg for centuries. Now is it the seat of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

But even you don’t book a ticket it is worth visiting the castle park which is free and open all year round. I can recommend to go for a walk behind the castle. The park is very big. If stand in front of the castle turn left to get a nice side view and see the garden. The two photos above taken there. The park offers for sure many opportunities for beautiful pictures, if you into it.

I walked for a while through the park and found these two beautiful places. The right picture was taken still at the castle and the left one I shot in the park. There were several underpasses that helped against the afternoon heat. From this perspective, the castle seems to be far away, however, is also still the plant on which we are standing. It doesn’t like it but it was super crowded that day. But when you walk further, it becomes emptier.

Not Far away from the castle is the main town of Schwerin. Everywhere are cute streets and building, which has a rich history. My friend and I bought a drink and we sat down at the waterfront. We just enjoy the view and talked for hours. There are plenty of Restaurant and bar where you can sit outside.

Did you ever heard of the Schweriner castle?
Best,
Saskia ❤
